Marine Ports

Ports and harbours are major access points for people and freight entering a country.  Improvements in security and surveillance are seen as essential for detecting and apprehending criminals, terrorists and illegal immigrants, while at the same time protecting vital business assets from theft and vandalism.

Seaports are more exposed as an easier option for illegal entry of immigrants, drugs, weapons and others.  New maritime legislation promoting the adoption of an international code for ship and port facilities will require greater measures to enhance safety and security.

Surveillance in the port environment can improve:

  • Homeland security
    • Deter threats from terrorism
    • Contain illegal immigration
    • Reduce smuggling and drug trafficking
  • Port security and safety
    • Respond to vandalism, theft and misconduct
    • Assist with docking procedures
    • Control and automate cranes and lifting equipment
    • Increase staff security and control access
    • Reduce vehicle speeds
  • Passenger security and safety
    • Protect passengers and their belongings
  • Shipment visibility
    • Accurately track and trace cargo
    • Reduce identification errors and misplaced shipments
    • Monitor bonded storage areas and hazardous goods
  • Response
    • React to events, quickly, effectively and with more information
